The Indian Scout was a motorcycle built by the Indian Motorcycle Company from 1920 to 1949. It rivalled the Chief as Indian's most important model. Designed by Charles B. Franklin, the Scout had a V-twin engine with its transmission bolted to the engine casing. The Scout engine initially displaced 606 cc, it was increased to 745 cc in 1927. This is the sort of bike Burt Munro started with, when he built the Worlds Fastest Indian, a movie was made in 2005, all about his achievements, starring Anthony Hopkins as Burt. Back in the 50s, Burt Munro wanted to see how fast he could go on a motorcycle. He started off with a one of these Indian Scouts and in his Invercargill shed, way down in the South of New Zealand, highly modified the motorcycle, the 600cc engine ended up nearly 1000cc and ran on methanol. He held many New Zealand speed records, eventually taking it to the Bonneville Salt Flats in the US and broke the land speed record for motorcycles with engines under 1000cc at 201 mph.
