Hoadley was elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1909 as the representative for Okotoks. He sat as a Conservative member from 1909 to 1921 and then as a United Farmers of Alberta member from 1921 to 1935. Hoadley was the Minister of Agriculture and Health for the United Farmers of Alberta government. George Hoadley was responsible for introducing the bill for the sexual sterilization of mentally disabled persons. The vote on the act was not unanimous - 13 members of the UFA caucus were absent, but it was enacted by the Alberta Legislature on March 21, 1928. The day after passage, posters appeared on the streets of Edmonton - calling for the sterilization of George Hoadley. Hoadley justified the bill as saving money in the care for mentally disabled persons.
