Descrição do ficheiro

Descrição
English: This year’s rainfall has been historically low in many parts of Brazil, causing severe drought in the country's Amazonian areas and water scarcity in the Amazonia River. This drought is taking a toll on many communities, threatening water supply and impacting agriculture. The lack of water is also hampering navigation on the Amazonia River, isolating communities and affecting fishers. The Centre for Monitoring Natural Disasters and Alerts (Cemaden), an agency linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology warns that this situation could last until January 2024. In these images acquired by Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 29 September 2022, and 2023, the drought-induced lowering of the water levels of the Amazon River in Brazil can clearly be seen. The Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites provide free and open data that can be used to monitor droughts and their impact on water bodies, ecosystems and infrastructure.
