Lead musket ball. Cast ball with the stub of a round section casting ingate and with a neat mould line. Circumferential marks, including some interpreted by the finder as incised, were probably left by the inside surface of the bullet mould, and are exaggerated by erosion in an intertidal context which has either removed or prevented the formation of patina. The mass, at over an ounce, confirms this would be for use with a smoothbore muzzle loading firearm of military specification. An origin from a shipwreck or from a barrel of shot lost overboard is probable. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1820.
