English: Sketch of the Australian Agricultural Company's coal works, Newcastle, 1833.

The State Library of New South Wales states (https://archival.sl.nsw.gov.au/Details/archive/110321711): "This sketch is similar to one by J.C. White of the first Coal Staith of the Australian Agricultural Company, showing the 'Sophia Jane' and the Company's cutter 'Lambton' taking coal in 1833" and "In 1831 The Australian Agricultural Company took over all coal mining operations in Newcastle."

The sketch shows, from left, the headframe of the company's first coal mine (Pit A); two pairs of coal wagons on the steeply inclined, gravity-activated funicular railway; a lifting span over the Maitland Road; two coal wagons being pushed by one or more convicts; and the loading staith at which ships berthed while coal was tipped into their holds. In the foreground is an Aboriginal family.
