The paragraph concerning the two paintings by Appiani (and many others for what that matters) just lead to this new publication from 2022, that doesn't state any further older sources. The two images presented as works by Appiani are anonymous portraits from the XVI century, one at the National Gallery in London and the other at the Kunsthistorische Museum in Vienna.
